  • Fluorescent stains and how to remove them

We are asked many times to remove these stains, whether they are juice, powdered drinks, wax spills the following is probably the best solution we have found that works most of the time.

We tend not to carry out this procedure except on the smallest spills because it is time consuming and most folks when armed with the information just get on and do it themselves.

    What you will need:
Dawn dish soap, the blue one woks best but we don’t now why.
1 pint spray bottle or container
    White terry cloths
    A clothes iron

    Instructions:
Put 6 drops of Dawn into the container and add warm to hand hot water to fill.
Wet the area containing the stain and wet and wring out the cloth.
    Plug in the iron.
DO NOT LEAVE THE IRON UNATTENDED WHILST PLUGGED IN AND SWITCHED ON AND KEEP THE HOT IRON AWAY FROM ANYONE OR ANYTHING IT MIGHT BURN OR DAMAGE.
Place the damp cloth on the stain.
Gently iron the cloth until stain transfer (from the carpet to the cloth) begins.
Continue to do this keeping the cloth damp all the while.
DO NOT LET THE CLOTH DRY OUT AS THIS COULD LEAD TO BURNING THE CARPET.
If not colour transfer takes place, turn up the heat of the iron.

This is a very time consuming process and patience is required. The average spill (perhaps 3-5 inches) can take as long as three hours.

Stain removal will be rapid at first then slow down and as much as half the stain can be removed in 15-20 minutes. The balance might take a further 21/2 hours.
